Home Fires

Summer is peak season for the Country Fire Authority as the nation focuses their attention on the dry and dangerous conditions that fuel bushfires around the country. Many of us, however, are unaware of how many fires start inside the home around the country all year round.  The majority of preventable house fires start in the kitchen as a result of unattended cooking. In 2017 in Victoria over 1500 preventable house fires occurred, causing more than $42 million in damage. One of the reasons cooking fires cause so much damage is that people panic and naturally try to extinguish fires with water. As little as one cup of water tipped on a small fire in a pot or pan can instantly turn it into a wall of flame involving your whole kitchen. With this in mind, the CFA needed to educate residents in more effective ways to not only prevent fires in the kitchen, but how to extinguish them. We worked with the CFA in the development of a short, informative web video. It’s hoped this little video will prevent a lot of big disasters in our homes not only this summer, but all year round.
