Family violence is not part of Aboriginal culture, yet Aboriginal communities in parts of Australia continue to experience disproportionately high rates of family violence.
To help address this and strengthen connections to police support and resources, Lifebuoy partnered with Yoowina Wurnalong Aboriginal Healing Service to produce a short documentary promoting “Yarning with Police” – an event held in late 2025 that brought together East Gippsland Police and the Gunai Kurnai community to yarn about working together to address family violence.
The event aimed to reduce the disproportionate impact of family violence on Aboriginal people, particularly women and children, through a strengths-based, gender-responsive and trauma-informed approach. The documentary highlights the collaborative work of Yoowina and Victoria Police, showing that lasting change relies on Aboriginal families and the broader community working together.
