Medically Supervised Injecting Centres or MSIC’s are a compassionate and practical health service that seeks to connect with people who inject drugs and welcome them in a non-judgemental way. The conditions both new and experienced workers at MSIC face can be dangerous but it is such important service and the staff know that, without them, people would die. To help new and existing staff comprehend and come to terms with their work and their clients, we filmed and edited scripted role plays with staff in difficult situations plus testimonials from MSIC staff and affiliated community services that included CAG, the consumer action group established by people who have lived with addiction. Consumer led action and participation in harm reduction and drug treatment, policy, practices and services is crucial if a service like MSIC is to remain progressive and, more importantly, to continue to save lives for years to come.
